Enhancing life in the Megalong Valley and representing the views of the community.

By developing a united community voice on all issues that affect our valley’s wellbeing and quality of life.
Our mission is to ensure the community’s views are represented to relevant authorities, and to promote and encourage cultural, social and recreational opportunities within the Megalong Valley. We do this by focussing on 4 points of action:

Working for the preservation of the rural atmosphere of Megalong Valley.
From growing fruit, raising cattle, keeping bees and horses, to caring for our wildlife and unique flora, the valley’s history is rich with stories of rural life at its fullest. We’re blessed with natural treasures that keep drawing people to this picturesque spot and work to preserve this unique atmosphere for future generations to enjoy.

Organising and promoting various local cultural, sporting, social and recreational events.
This is a vibrant community, priding itself on celebrating all aspects of rural life and culture. Horseriding has a historical significance in the valley and continues to be showcased at the bi-annual Gymkhana event. World class music events, a local Makers’ Market and award winning farm-to-table dining are expanding what makes this place so magical, and brings our diverse community together.

Working for the maintenance and improvement of the various community facilities.
Events and gathering spaces such as the Showground and Community Hall reinforce our unique Megalong Valley “sense of place”, and we work with their owners to ensure those facilities are fit-for-purpose and evolve in keeping with the community’s needs and objectives. This also includes advocacy for maintaining safe access into and out of the valley, and working in partnership with traditional leaders to care for the beautiful land we gather on.

Conducting fundraising activities to ensure the association can meet its objectives.
We are a Not-for-Profit organisation, raising funds in creative and engaging ways that help us deliver the community’s objectives. The Megalong Makers’ Market is a great example of community volunteers working together to put on a great show, make lemonade with local produce and bake artisinal pizzas in our purpose-made wood oven, all in the spirit of having fun together and earning some cash to improve our collective lives.
“We acknowledge the Gundungurra and Dharug people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live in the Megalong Valley. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to all Gundungurra and Dharug people who continue to care for this Country with strength, wisdom, and generosity.
This valley, its rivers, ridgelines, and stories, holds layers of knowledge and connection that stretch back over tens of thousands of years. We are grateful for the opportunity to walk and work gently on this land and to learn from its enduring presence. May we move forward with respect, responsibility, and a commitment to listening and caring for Country together.”
